The Concept

Paperless. Less or indeed no paper. Not as easy as you think.

Essentially, this is the concept of this blog, and for the purposes of extending this to all my interests this shall be extended to non-physical but portable and transportable media. By portable I means capable of viewing on different devices, and by transportable it is mobile and not fixed to a location, desk or mains socket.

The scope is my thoughts on all technological advances, my observations, and notably my ability to generate, store, review and distribute information (text, photo, music, and video) without the requirement for any physical media such as paper, flash disks, CD/DVD, or even email (which is already as much of a problem as paper mail for most people). This is very simple in your own world, but when the rest of the world is reliant on these formats, it’s and ongoing challenge to manage all this as efficiently as possible.

And it’s the management which is key. From the first cave drawings to multi-layered PDFs with comments and hyperlinks, there’s always been some issue or other with how this data is to be managed. Is it some temporary fleeting moment, which can be absorbed and then discarded, does it require storage until one or more actions have been completed, or stored on a permanent basis (whatever that permanent means).

So what follows is a series of ideas, and notes on the software tools which can be used to capture, store and manage data of all forms. This isn’t the first blog or web page on this topic, and I very much doubt it will be the last.

This is limited to my own device preferences which at the moment are limited to Apple iOS devices and Microsoft Windows. The detail on any Apple Mac OsX software will be limited to what I can read online as the gods (/wife/bank manager!) have yet to be kind enough to provide a Mac computer.
